Elijah Gyansa is an incoming fourth-year student at the University of Toronto (UofT). He is majoring in Global Health with a double minor in Immunology and Psychology. His passion stems from addressing inequities in healthcare and education. He has been an advocate for social change and empowerment, working with several non-profit organizations to lead change. Serving his community through his work as a volunteer and program facilitator at the For Youth Initiative, he supports racialized and newcomer youth to overcome barriers of their location, socio-economic background and race to achieve what they're truly capable of. He also assists at the TAIBU Community Health Centre as a Youth Community Leader and Project Development Support on the From School to Success Pipeline project in his commitment to empowering youth to create meaningful and positive change, both systemically and within their communities. Elijah works at the UofT Department of Immunology Lab as a research assistant investigating tissue regeneration for Crohn's and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He believes that his future healthcare career will directly assist in improving the well-being of disadvantaged and marginalized communities. When Elijah is not playing frisbee or basketball, he enjoys spending time with his nieces and nephews and reads in his free time.
