Hiwote Addisalem is currently enrolled as a fourth-year student at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. Double majoring in Human biology and health studies. With a keen interest in public health, she aspires to work and addresses social determinants of health and other structural barriers. Hiwote has extensive experience working with marginalized populations as a member of a Children and Early Teens multidisciplinary team with BGC east Scarborough where she delivers programs that provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth and families experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, and develop positive relationships and life skills. Hiwote has also been involved in organizational change initiatives as an adept Youth community leader at TAIBU Community Health Centre (CHC), a multidisciplinary, non-for-profit, community led organization established to serve the Black Community across the Greater Toronto Area as its priority population. As a Youth Community Leader, she supports the delivery of health promotion initiatives to priority populations. Her primary interests include; health equity, non-communicable disease, and cultural competency within healthcare.
