Maryam is a third-year student at The University of Toronto Scarborough campus, pursuing a double major in Health Studies and Psychology with a minor in Biology. Her interest lies in the healthcare field, where she aims to address issues of health equity in marginalized communities. Particularly, she aspires to combine the practice of psychology within the medical field to provide holistic care, encompassing physical, emotional, and mental well-being. She has experience working with individuals in underserved communities as the Mentor Lead for BridgeTO Youth, an organization dedicated to supporting youth in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to achieve success beyond high school. This role has allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized populations and has fostered her passion and drive for health equity research. Maryam is excited to begin her journey in research with an interest in mental health, global health, and health equity. Outside of academic work, she is an active member within her Muslim community on and outside of campus. She enjoys playing basketball, reading, cooking, and writing.
