Muna Aden is a research professional with a graduate degree in Public Health. Her work combines the dynamic and iterative processes of knowledge generation that include collection, analysis, synthesis, dissemination, exchange and ethically sound application of knowledge to improve population health. She is also a published author, public speaker and mentor.
Her strategic interest in Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) includes improving the KMb capacity of researchers, community members and policymakers. In particular, her work focuses on increasing awareness among knowledge users of the influence of sex and gender on health and well-being; and advocating for the greater integration of sex and gender considerations in health policies, programs, services, systems and society at large.
Her areas of substantive expertise include intervention development, program evaluation, capacity building, research frameworks, health communication, knowledge translation, and health policy.
As a consultant, Muna supports the implementation of interventions to improve health and well-being for populations that have been historically denied access and provides technical advisory services for community-based programs that address the social determinants of health.
She is a community advisory board member of the "Because She Cares" project and is also a mentor to research trainees. Muna regularly engages in capacity building/capacity sharing initiatives and strives for the greater representation and meaningful involvement of community members in research.
